Bride-to-Be Accused of Stabbing Fiancé in the Neck

A wedding venue disagreement took a violent turn when a Wisconsin woman allegedly stabbed her fiancé in the neck with a kitchen knife. Police say the dispute escalated into a physical altercation, leaving the man with multiple knife wounds and the woman facing serious criminal charges.

A Heated Argument Turns Dangerous

Brookfield police responded to a home on North 135th Street on Jan. 29 after a man called 911, reporting that his girlfriend had stabbed him in the neck. When officers arrived, they found the victim lying across the doorway, holding a towel to his bleeding neck. Nearby, 22-year-old Kailee Brantner sat on the couch with her child. A blood-stained kitchen knife was later found in the kitchen.

According to the criminal complaint, the couple had been arguing over whether to use their home as a wedding venue. The victim told police that he had woken up to find text messages and screenshots between Brantner and his mother, which led to an argument. He alleged that Brantner came home from work early and, without warning, began attacking him. When he tried to gather his belongings in the basement, Brantner allegedly followed him with a knife, swinging at him multiple times. He was struck in the left arm, chest, and neck before falling to his knees, at which point Brantner stopped the attack.

Conflicting Stories

Brantner, however, told investigators a different version of events. She admitted that she and her fiancé had gotten into a heated physical altercation but claimed he had thrown her to the ground before she picked up the knife. She said she initially put the weapon down but picked it up again after feeling threatened. She admitted to making contact with his left arm and neck but claimed she then applied pressure to his wounds with a towel. She also stated that she sat on the couch after the incident to ensure she wouldn't be accused of fleeing the scene.

The victim admitted to police that he had struck Brantner in self-defense and likely bit her finger during the struggle. Authorities noted visible red marks and a cut on Brantner's nose, supporting claims that the fight had turned physical on both sides.

Legal Consequences

Brantner was arrested and charged with first-degree reckless injury, a charge that could carry up to 30 years in prison if convicted. She was released on a $3,500 bond and has been ordered to stay at least a mile away from the victim.

What started as a disagreement over wedding plans quickly spiraled into a violent domestic incident, leaving one person injured and the other facing a serious felony charge. The case highlights the devastating consequences that can arise when heated emotions turn physical. With Brantner set to appear in court soon, the outcome of this shocking case remains to be seen.
