Ted Bundy, suspected in the deaths of over 30 women, was first caught in 1975 for driving without his headlights on. A police officer's search of his car uncovered a ski mask, handcuffs, and an ice pick — items that connected Bundy to sinister intentions. Even after escaping prison twice, Bundy's reckless driving habits continued to betray him. Dennis Rader: Floppy Disk Foolishness
Dennis Rader, infamously known as the BTK Killer, sealed his fate with a floppy disk. After years of evading capture, Rader asked police if it was safe to send a floppy disk containing more information about his crimes. Police assured him it was fine — through a newspaper ad — and Rader, naively trusting them, mailed the disk. Metadata on the disk pointed directly to his church, where Rader was president of the council. This clue led to his arrest and subsequent life sentences.

During his 1976-77 killing spree, David Berkowitz evaded capture until a minor oversight unraveled his anonymity.
