Child Left Unattended as Muncie Mom 'On the Nod' Was Found Passed Out in Walmart® Restroom
A Muncie mother, Sabryna Ashley Rose Godby, 25, was arrested after a troubling incident unfolded at a local Walmart®. The woman allegedly passed out in the store's restroom, leaving her young child unattended for an extended period. The case has sparked concerns about child welfare and substance abuse.
Passed Out in the Restroom
Police were called to a Walmart in Muncie, Indiana, after store staff noticed a young child wandering the aisles alone. The child, appearing distressed, informed employees that their mother had been locked in the family restroom for over an hour. Concerned staff intervened and contacted authorities.
Upon arrival, police found Sabryna Ashley Rose Godby unconscious inside the locked restroom. When she eventually emerged, employees described her as being "on the nod," as reported by the Star Press, a term commonly associated with opioid use or intoxication. The incident raised immediate alarm for the child's safety and highlighted the severity of the situation.

Signs of Substance Abuse
Police reported several signs suggesting Godby was under the influence when they arrived at the scene. Her behavior included slurred speech, slow responses, and constricted pupils that did not react to light. When police searched Godby's purse, they found a prescription bottle of Oxycodone pills, which had been filled earlier that day. The prescription, intended for a man who had been incarcerated since Oct. 4, originally contained 120 pills, but only 33 remained. These findings raised serious concerns about the safety of her child, as the presence of powerful narcotics in her possession could have put the child in immediate danger.
The combination of substance abuse and neglect highlighted the risks the child faced in Godby's care. Further exacerbating concerns, records show Godby was convicted in June 2018 of driving while intoxicated by the Jay Superior Court, signaling a troubling history of substance-related incidents.
Legal Consequences and Charges
Godby was arrested at the scene and taken into custody without further incident. She now faces multiple charges, including neglect of a dependent and possession of a controlled substance. She remains in the Delaware County Jail and held on a $7,500 bond, according to Star Press. Child Protective Services (CPS) was contacted to ensure the child's immediate custody and safety.
