A Florida wedding turned chaotic when a lawyer allegedly lost his cool over a buffet line dispute— leading to a violent plate-smashing incident. The shocking altercation unfolded at a wedding reception at the Boca Lago Country Club, where guests expected a night of celebration, not a physical fight over food.
Wedding Buffet Turns Violent
On Jan. 18, 2025, Mark Roher, a 52-year-old Florida attorney, allegedly attacked a fellow wedding guest with a dinner plate after tensions flared over buffet line etiquette. The confrontation began when Roher noticed another attendee, Syed Raza, allowing two young girls to cut in front of him, one of them being Raza's daughter. Witnesses claim Roher grew increasingly frustrated before finally snapping.
According to reports, Roher first confronted Raza verbally, expressing his anger over the perceived unfairness. When Raza ignored him to avoid further conflict, Roher allegedly escalated the situation — grabbing a plate and smashing it over the man's head.
From Buffet Line to Behind Bars
The violent outburst threw the reception into chaos as guests scrambled to break up the fight. When police arrived, they arrested Roher and charged him with aggravated battery. However, the 52-year-old later claimed he was the true victim of the buffet-line fiasco.
A witness confirmed in the police report that "the plate had shattered and that Mark then pushed the victim and was holding him by the collar,” according to PEOPLE. She stated that other guests quickly intervened, separating the two men, but Roher still allegedly attempted to approach Raza before being stopped again. Roher told police that alcohol played no role in the incident, stating that none was served at the wedding.
The police report stated that an officer found probable cause to charge Mark Roher with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, alleging he intentionally struck the victim and used a plate as a weapon, as reported by PEOPLE.
Despite the dramatic altercation, Raza did not suffer any serious injuries. Authorities reported that he walked away with only a bump on the head, though the shock of being attacked with a plate in the middle of a wedding reception was enough to leave a lasting impression.
Legal Consequences for the Allegedly 'Hangry' Lawyer
Roher, a licensed Florida attorney, could face serious legal consequences for his alleged actions. Aggravated battery is a felony charge that carries a potential sentence of up to five years in prison. Beyond the criminal charges, his professional reputation is also at risk. If convicted, he could face disbarment as well.
He plans to plead not guilty.
One immediate consequence? Roher and his wife have been banned from the Boca Lago Country Club for the next year.
A Wedding No One Will Forget
While wedding drama is nothing new, a lawyer smashing a plate over someone's head over buffet line etiquette is a new level of outrageous. One thing is certain — this is one wedding story that won't be forgotten anytime soon.
