He Showed Up at His Ex's Wedding — Then He Burned to Death

A 24-year-old named Anil had planned to get married in February 2025 — but he never made it to his own wedding. Instead, he burned to death in his car outside his ex-girlfriend's wedding venue in East Delhi, India. While police investigate, his family refuses to believe it was an accident.
A Wedding Night Turned Deadly
A cab driver in the Indian capital of Delhi, Anil drove to a banquet hall in Gazipur on Jan. 18, 2025. He had been out distributing invitations for his own upcoming wedding, which was set for Feb. 14, 2025. But instead of celebrating his future, he died in a fire outside the wedding of a woman he had loved.
Around 11 p.m., emergency calls flooded in about a Maruti Suzuki Wagon R engulfed in flames at the venue's entrance. Bystanders smashed the windows, desperate to pull Anil from the fire, but it was too late. Abhishek Dhania, Deputy Commissioner of Police for East Delhi, described the man's body as "charred beyond recognition," according to The Indian Express.
A Love Story With a Dark Ending
Anil's connection to the bride raises more questions than answers. He reportedly had been in a relationship with her, but her father objected, partly because they were related. The family arranged another marriage for her, but Anil hadn't moved on.
On the night of her wedding, he arrived at the banquet hall, and soon after, his car turned into an inferno. As reported by PEOPLE, an unnamed officer said, "The victim had not gotten over the relationship. On the night of the wedding, Anil reached the venue in his car, but somehow the vehicle caught fire."
Foul Play or Tragic Coincidence?
Anil's family isn't buying the idea that his death was an accident. His brothers called police, accusing the bride's family of murder. Meanwhile, the bride's father made separate calls, alleging violence from Anil's relatives. According to The Indian Express, authorities have opened a case and are investigating all angles.
Forensic teams examined the scene, but the cause of the fire remains unknown. No one has ruled out self-harm, mechanical failure, or something more sinister. As the bride's family continues wedding celebrations, Anil's family is left with nothing but ashes — and the haunting suspicion that someone wanted him gone.
