“I Have a Body in My Car”: Son Turns Himself In-1

Son Kills His Father, Brings Body to the Cops

By Gary P. • Dec 31, 2024

In a jaw-dropping crime that left even seasoned cops stunned, a New York man pulled up to the sheriff's office with his father's corpse in the trunk. Richard Fluegel Jr., 30, calmly told officers his dead dad was in the car, and the chilling story behind this family tragedy is enough to send shivers down anyone's spine.

A Missing Father and a Deadly Revelation

The story began on Dec. 8, 2024, when Richard Fluegel Sr., 60, was reported missing after failing to return home and missing an early-morning flight. Police quickly found his abandoned vehicle in Dansville, New York, but nothing could prepare them for what would happen next.

Late the following night, Fluegel Jr. parked at the Livingston County Sheriff's Office, where his lawyer — who arrived separately — told officers that his client had a body in his car. When police obtained a search warrant, they discovered Fluegel Sr.'s body wrapped in a tarp, with gunshot wounds that investigators say were inflicted by a 12-gauge shotgun.

Father and Son Conflict Turns Deadly

Authorities believe the alleged murder occurred in Ossian, where Fluegel Jr. had been trying to launch a marijuana-growing operation. The father-son duo reportedly had a heated argument that escalated to violence. After allegedly shooting his father twice, Fluegel Jr. wrapped the body in a tarp, loaded it into his car, and drove to the sheriff's office parking lot in what police described as an "abnormal" turn of events, as reported by Too Fab.

Sheriff Thomas Dougherty remarked to WHAM, "I have never heard of that in my career. It's a very unique situation where someone calls and says, 'Yeah, I'm here, and I want to turn in a body,'" as reported by Too Fab.

Murder Charges and a Community in Shock

Fluegel Jr. was arrested on Dec. 10 and now faces charges of second-degree murder, felony use of a firearm, and tampering with evidence. He pleaded not guilty, but is being held without bail.

As investigators continue piecing together the case, those who knew Richard Fluegel Sr. are mourning his loss. Chris Norton, a friend of the deceased, shared on Facebook, "Till we ride again, but I know you will be with me on every ride I take, every cigar I light, and every glass of bourbon I drink," according to PEOPLE.

A son accused of murdering his father and driving his body to the police station? It sounds like the plot of a twisted thriller, but this case is all too real. As Fluegel Jr. awaits his day in court, the shocking details of this patricide continue to leave a community in disbelief.
