A National Guard soldier is facing murder charges after a fatal encounter in what authorities are calling a lethal love triangle. The tragic events, rooted in jealousy and heartbreak, have left a family and small community devastated and in shock.

The Fatal Encounter

Authorities allege that Army National Guard soldier Natravien Landry, 25, fatally shot U.S. Army Sgt. Andre S. Stewart Jr. on the morning of Dec. 14, 2024 at Fort Eisenhower in Georgia. At approximately 7:15 a.m., Landry reportedly arrived at the on-post home of his ex-girlfriend, who is also the mother of his child. Upon arriving, he questioned a relative of the woman who was outside the residence, asking whose truck was parked there. When the relative attempted to reenter the home, Landry allegedly forced his way inside.

Inside the house, investigators say Landry found Stewart in bed with his ex-girlfriend. The woman, who had been in a romantic relationship with Stewart, later told authorities about Landry's jealousy towards her new relationship. She recalled waking up to a commotion in her bedroom and seeing Landry standing in the doorway. When she approached him to talk, she turned away briefly and heard a gunshot. Stewart was pronounced dead about an hour later at a nearby hospital, with a gunshot wound to the chest.

After the shooting, Landry fled Fort Eisenhower, but investigators tracked him down using surveillance camera sightings and cellphone pings. He was apprehended three hours later south of Atlanta on Interstate 85. Deputies conducted a felony traffic stop during which Landry allegedly tossed a 9mm handgun out of the car window, according to WSAZ.com.

Charges and Community Reaction

Landry has been charged with one count of murder and is detained at the Lincoln County Jail for further court proceedings.

The shooting has left many residents of Fort Eisenhower in shock after they were awoken Saturday morning by sirens and loudspeakers blaring warnings of a possible active shooter. The tragedy has left the local community grappling with the shock of the incident (WRDW, 2024).

The family of Sgt. Andre S. Stewart Jr. remembers him as a kind-hearted individual with unwavering faith. They described him as full of life and want the world to remember the joy and positivity he brought to those around him. As the investigation continues, both families remain united in their grief and search for justice. The devastating outcome of this love triangle emphasizes the potentially dire consequences of jealousy.
