Kristin Cavallari's Chilling Encounter: 'I Woke Up to a Man Crawling on My Floor'

Kristin Cavallari recently shared details of a terrifying experience during a 2020 family vacation in the Bahamas. On her "Let's Be Honest With Kristin Cavallari" podcast, the 37-year-old revealed how she awoke to find a masked intruder crawling across her bedroom floor while her then-8-year-old son, Camden, slept beside her.
A 'Safe' Stay Turns Dangerous
The incident took place at what Cavallari described on her podcast as a "really great, safe — what we thought was safe — gated resort," as reported by HuffPost. The family, including her then-husband Jay Cutler and their three children, had relocated to a rental house after initially staying in a condo. Earlier that day, Cavallari had called maintenance to repair the home's HVAC system.
That night, Cavallari woke up when her bedroom door opened, the light from the hallway illuminating the room. "I woke up to my bedroom door opening," she said, as reported by HuffPost, explaining how the sight of the intruder crawling across the floor quickly jolted her into action. She noted that the man was dressed entirely in black, wearing a ski mask, and fled the moment he realized she was awake.
Staying Calm Under Pressure
Despite the shocking intrusion, Cavallari remained calm to avoid alarming her sleeping son. "Because Cam was in the bed with me, I didn't yell. I didn't scream," she shared, as reported by PEOPLE, adding that her instincts took over to protect him. She carefully left the room and searched the house to find Cutler, who was upstairs with their other two children.
Once the situation was under control, the gravity of what had just happened hit her. "Then I started shaking. I was able to process then what happened," she explained on the podcast, as reported by HuffPost, noting how calm she initially felt during the encounter.
The Shocking Culprit
The family discovered that the intruder had stolen cash from a backpack in the home. Authorities later identified the man as the HVAC technician who had been in the house earlier that day. "Long story short, he took all of the cash that we had in a backpack," Cavallari explained, as reported by PEOPLE, adding that the money was eventually recovered.
Protecting Her Children
To this day, Cavallari has kept the traumatic event from her children, fearing it would frighten them. "That's just one that I think would really scare them," she said, as reported by HuffPost, explaining that she plans to wait until they are adults before sharing the story. For now, she continues to shield them from the frightening reality of that night.
Calling the ordeal “one of the scariest things" she's gone through, as reported by PEOPLE, Cavallari's account highlights her remarkable composure during a moment of pure terror.
