When Fast-Food Turns Fatal

It was just another busy evening at McDonald's on Dec. 26, 2024 — or so everyone thought. Around 8 p.m., 25-year-old McDonald's employee Kevin Holland allegedly got into a heated argument with Samori Husamudeen, also 25, a father of four delivering food for DoorDash.

Whatever sparked the altercation, it escalated quickly. According to surveillance video, Holland allegedly pulled out a gun and fatally shot Husamudeen, firing several shots at his back. Emergency responders pronounced Husamudeen dead at the scene, leaving his family and the local community devastated.

A Hunt and an Arrest at Walmart

If there's one place you don't want to be found hiding after a crime, it's Walmart. Holland fled the McDonald's scene but didn’t stay under the radar for long. Police apprehended him the next day at a Walmart in nearby Spring Lake, North Carolina, about 20 minutes away from the McDonald's.

Currently held at the Cumberland County Detention Center without bond, Holland faces a first-degree murder charge. Meanwhile, investigators are piecing together what exactly went wrong during that ill-fated delivery.

A Family's Heartache

Samori Husamudeen's loved ones have been left reeling from this senseless loss. "He loved his family, especially his kids," a grieving family member told WTVD, as reported by 6 ABC. Known for his contagious smile and unwavering positivity, Husamudeen was described as a devoted father and a kind soul.

His four young children are now without a father, and his family is left grappling with an unimaginable tragedy.

Corporate Condolences

Both McDonald's and DoorDash have expressed their sympathies and pledged cooperation with law enforcement. The local McDonald's owner described the incident as "shocking and upsetting" and assured that counseling resources are available for employees, as reported by PEOPLE.

DoorDash, according to PEOPLE, stated, "We are devastated by this tragic loss and our hearts are with Mr. Husamudeen's loved ones. This was a horrible and tragic crime, and we stand ready to assist law enforcement in bringing the individual responsible to justice."

Shell-Shocking Update

Nearly two months after the tragic shooting, a new development emerged: Kevin Holland's mother, 48-year-old Shahida Burrows, was arrested in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, on outstanding warrants related to the case. Court documents reveal that surveillance footage from the McDonald's that night showed Burrows reportedly picking up shell casings from the floor, concealing them in a napkin, and putting the napkin in her pocket. When police later processed the crime scene, only one shell casing was recovered despite multiple shots being fired.

Burrows allegedly failed to disclose this information during her interview with homicide detectives, nor did she turn over the casings to law enforcement. Now extradited to Fayetteville, Burrows faces charges of accessory after the fact and felony obstruction of justice. She is currently being held at the Cumberland County Detention Center on a $100,000 bond.
