TLDR
Police in Miami Beach say Massachusetts visitor Olajuwon Dickerson, 32, stabbed a friend after a night out during a bachelor trip. An arrest affidavit describes dueling accounts of self-defense, witness statements about a folding knife, and a no-bond order while charges proceed.
Alleged Confrontation Outside Miami Beach Bars
The affidavit states that Dickerson and several friends traveled to Miami Beach for a bachelor party and shared an Airbnb in the Miami Gardens area. Witnesses told investigators the group met women at bars along Ocean Drive and that the women focused their attention on Dickerson, which allegedly angered the eventual victim.
After leaving the bars, the affidavit says, the group split between vehicles. The victim allegedly confronted Dickerson when some of the women entered a car with Dickerson and another man. Dickerson is accused of exiting his vehicle and approaching the victim, who was in a separate car. According to the affidavit, witnesses said, “The defendant approached and told him to get out of the vehicle.” Moments later, they reported seeing blood and noticing the victim bleeding from his abdomen.
Witness Accounts and Physical Evidence
In a statement to police, the victim said he suddenly realized he had been stabbed, then feared he would be stabbed again. He told investigators that he fought back in self-defense, during which Dickerson sustained a stab wound to his arm. Both men remained at the scene until officers arrived, according to the affidavit.
The document says one witness reported trying to stop Dickerson’s bleeding when Dickerson handed over a folding knife that was covered in blood. Officers later recovered that knife. Investigators wrote that Dickerson denied wielding the knife and denied being in any altercation with his friend, instead telling police the men left the bar and that he “remembered nothing else.” Those statements sit in tension with the witnesses’ accounts describing a confrontation and immediate injuries.
Court Appearance and Pretrial Conditions
Aggravated battery with a deadly weapon is a felony under Florida law, and the charging decision signals that prosecutors view the friend as the primary victim, despite his own use of a knife. The affidavit’s description of the victim’s actions as defensive, if accepted in court, will be weighed against Dickerson’s denial and any future evidence from both sides.
According to WPLG, Dickerson’s first court appearance occurred via remote video from the hospital, where he was still receiving treatment for his arm wound. The judge ordered him held without bond and directed that he have no contact with the friend he is accused of stabbing, setting the conditions under which the case will move forward.
The case remains at a pretrial stage, with only the affidavit, early court orders, and limited public reporting outlining what happened between the two men. Any eventual trial or plea negotiations will likely test the conflicting narratives of self-defense and clarify how a night intended for celebration turned into a felony prosecution.
