A Bucks County family counselor is facing serious charges after a tip led police to discover hidden cameras set up to record patients and staff using the bathroom in his Quakertown, Pennsylvania, office. The shocking revelation has led to the closure of the counseling center where he worked, leaving the community stunned.
Hidden Cameras Discovered in Therapist's Office
Authorities arrested Jonathan Moyer, 54, a program director at Empower Life Coaching & Counseling, after a witness made a disturbing discovery — a hidden recording device inside the women's bathroom. Investigators believe Moyer used the device to secretly record both patients and staff without their knowledge.
Moyer served as a program director and family counselor, specializing in addiction counseling, anxiety treatment, parent-child dynamics, and family therapy.
Police Raid Therapist's Home and Offices
The investigation into Moyer began on March 3, 2025, when a tip led authorities to a microSD card containing videos of him allegedly setting up a hidden camera in his Quakertown office bathroom. The footage also included multiple women unknowingly being recorded while using the toilet.
Later that day, police executed search warrants at Moyer's offices in Quakertown and Berks County, as well as his home in Alburtis, Lehigh County, Pennsylvania. When confronted, he attempted to use the bathroom but was denied. Police discovered a key fob and a black charging block in his possession, both containing hidden cameras with a microSD card. Inside the bathroom, they found a covert camera disguised as a USB charging block, plugged into an outlet beneath the sink and positioned directly across from the toilet.
At his Alburtis home, investigators uncovered a stash of covert recording devices, including spy cameras disguised as charging blocks, key fobs, and pens, along with numerous storage devices. Authorities have identified four victims so far, but they believe more will emerge as the investigation continues. The duration and extent of the recordings are still being determined.
Moyer now faces multiple charges, including one count each of interception of oral communications, possession of a device for interception of oral communications, and possession of an instrument of crime, as well as six counts of invasion of privacy.
Counseling Center Closes After Shocking Arrest
Following the arrest, Empower Life Coaching & Counseling made the swift decision to shut down its Quakertown location indefinitely. In a public statement, the center expressed shock and dismay over the allegations, emphasizing that Moyer acted alone and that his alleged actions do not reflect the values of the organization, stating, "We are all in shock about his actions, and want to make everyone aware that this was an act of only one individual. Remaining staff, as well as clients, are potential victims,” as reported by Yahoo.
The center additionally stated, "We understand this news is disturbing for everyone, and we are working on reaching out to current clients one-on-one. We will continue to assist those who need help processing the recent event, as we ourselves work on dealing with our own pain and hurt due to his actions," according to Yahoo.
The center described the arrest as an "isolated incident" that likely took place only in recent months and was confined to the Quakertown office, as reported by Yahoo.
Moyer Behind Bars as Investigation Unfolds
For the women who visited the office for therapy, the betrayal is devastating. Many trusted Moyer with their deepest personal struggles, only to find out he was allegedly violating their privacy.
Moyer remains in custody at the Bucks County Correctional Center in lieu of $150,000 bail as the investigation continues. Authorities are analyzing the seized recordings and working to determine how many victims were affected.
This disturbing case serves as a reminder to remain vigilant — even in places that are reputably safe.
