Pope’s MAGA Brother Promises to ‘Tone It Down’ — For Now

If you think your family has political differences, wait until you meet the Prevosts. While Pope Leo XIV calls for peace from the Vatican, his older brother, Louis Prevost, is line-dancing his way through Florida's honky-tonk bars, while dodging a social media storm of his own making. From the Twisted Fork restaurant in Port Charlotte to an appearance on "Piers Morgan Uncensored," Louis Prevost, 73, has found himself under an unexpected spotlight. Not for his dance moves, but for his brash, Trump-style online presence — something he now says he plans to dial back.

The MAGA Mindset

Prevost has never hidden his political leanings. His now-private Facebook page once featured memes mocking President Joe Biden's supporters and recycling conspiracy theories about former Speaker Nancy Pelosi and her husband.

He even reposted a controversial image in 2024 depicting a mental health asylum with a caption suggesting it was where the "woke lived before the seventies," as reported by the Daily Beast.

But with his younger brother now occupying the highest seat in the Catholic Church, Prevost admits he's starting to feel the heat.

'Probably Tone It Down'

During his appearance with Piers Morgan, Prevost acknowledged that it might be time to "tone it down" — not because his views have changed, but to avoid creating more problems for his brother, the new pontiff, the New York Times reported.

"I don't need to create heat for him," Prevost explained, noting that his brother already has enough on his plate without being dragged into media drama over his Florida sibling's social media posts, according to the Daily Beast.

Although he says the Vatican hasn't contacted him — yet — Prevost seems aware that his colorful online behavior might not be Vatican-approved.

Brotherly Differences

Despite their vastly different public personas, Prevost insists there's no family feud brewing. While the pope recently called for peace in Gaza during his first public address, Prevost told The New York Times that, following the October 2023 Hamas attacks, he would have "flattened Gaza and made it a parking lot."

When asked by Morgan if his brother is "woke," Prevost chuckled and said no, but admitted Pope Leo XIV is "much more liberal" than he is, the New York Times reported.

And what does the new pope think of all this? According to Prevost, the pope knows exactly who his brother is and probably isn't surprised by any of it.

"He knows I am who I am, he's well aware of my position. He knows I'm probably not going to change... other than to tone it down," the Daily Beast reported.

The Florida Lifestyle

In the meantime, Prevost seems content with his slice of Americana. You'll find him most Thursdays boot-scooting at the Twisted Fork, his ringtone blaring Led Zeppelin's "Immigrant Song," and his wardrobe favoring T-shirts and shorts over anything remotely resembling Vatican finery.

While he acknowledges stepping back from the media, he also confessed to biting his tongue more often. Whether that lasts remains to be seen.

As the new pope settles into his historic role, the world will be watching — and so, apparently, will the tabloids — for any new outbursts from his outspoken older brother.

After all, this is Florida. And some habits are hard to break.
