Squatters Turn Beverly Hills Mansion Into All-Night Party House

By Gary P. • Nov 08, 2024

A luxury Beverly Hills mansion has become the unexpected scene of chaos as squatters have taken up residence, transforming it into an infamous party house. Hosting rowdy gatherings, the squatters have turned the otherwise quiet and high-profile neighborhood into a place of concern and frustration for nearby residents. Here's how the situation unfolded and why it's been so difficult for authorities to put a stop to it.

Mansion Becomes a Late-Night Club

The 5,875-square-foot mansion, located in the affluent Beverly Crest neighborhood, first attracted squatters in late October 2023. Since then, the squatters have reportedly thrown wild parties in the home, charging partygoers a $75 entry fee and even renting rooms for $300 a night under the listing "Beverly Hills Lodge." These gatherings often begin around 2 a.m., and neighbors have reported that the noise and disruptive behavior persist well into the morning, sometimes until 10 a.m. Party attendees leave behind trash, drug paraphernalia, and debris, which has been a significant nuisance to residents.

Fran Solomon, a neighbor who owns a nearby property, described the scene as chaotic and dangerous. "There are people drunk and stoned, wobbling, walking in and out, and then driving the canyons," she told local news station ABC7. The situation has escalated to the point where some residents have hired private security guards out of fear for their safety.

Fake Lease and Ownership Issues

The property is currently listed for sale at $4.59 million, but the ownership history has been anything but straightforward. The mansion was once owned by Dr. Munir Uwaydah, an orthopedic surgeon with a controversial background. After fleeing the country in connection to a health insurance fraud scheme and the alleged murder of his girlfriend, Uwaydah left the property behind. The court repossessed the mansion, appointing real estate agent John Woodward IV to manage its sale.

However, when Woodward visited the property, he found that the locks and gate codes had been changed. The squatters then produced a fake lease, claiming they had legally rented the mansion, which has made it difficult for authorities to remove them. Despite Woodward's insistence that the lease is fraudulent, police deemed the situation a civil matter, limiting their ability to intervene effectively.

Residents' Frustration and Safety Concerns

As the parties continued night after night, residents in the celebrity-filled neighborhood, home to stars like LeBron James and John Legend, have grown increasingly frustrated. Cars and motorcycles belonging to partygoers flood the narrow streets, blocking access for residents. One resident, who chose to remain anonymous, explained that the squatters "are trespassing in our neighborhood, bringing people who come up drunk at 2 a.m. and filling the streets with their cars," as reported by KTLA.

The situation has led to repeated calls to the police, but with limited legal options, the authorities have been unable to stop the gatherings entirely. Arrests have been made for various charges, including drug-related offenses and assault, but they haven't deterred the squatters or the attendees from continuing to party at the property.

What's Next for the Mansion?

The squatters' takeover highlights the complexities surrounding property ownership and squatters' rights in California. Although the listing agent, Woodward, has submitted the property to the court for sale, he is still waiting for legal action to remove the squatters. The court is responsible for deciding whether the utilities can be cut off, but even that process has faced delays.

Meanwhile, residents are left in a precarious situation. They can only hope that legal action will ultimately resolve the ownership and occupancy issues, bringing peace back to their neighborhood. This unusual case of squatting has exposed the need for clear legal remedies in similar situations to prevent communities from being disrupted by unauthorized occupants and their activities.

As authorities continue to evaluate the case, Beverly Hills residents wonder how long the nightly party scene at the uninvited "Beverly Hills Lodge" will overshadow their tranquil neighborhood.
