Woman Tries to Run Over Boyfriend on Her Way to Couples Therapy
A couple headed for couples therapy never made it to their session that day. Veronica Roleen Gast of Fergus Falls, Minnesota, was arrested Aug. 10, 2024, following a dramatic and chaotic event on their way to couples therapy.
Heated Exchange
Reports say an argument erupted between Gast and her boyfriend during their drive to the session to work on their relationship. As their dispute grew more heated, Gast's boyfriend abruptly decided he wanted to end their relationship immediately. The couple had been arguing throughout the day, and the victim was convinced that their relationship was beyond repair. He asked Gast to take him back to their home.
Alleged Attack With Car
Gast, age 30, suddenly stopped the car right in the middle of the road. She told her boyfriend to get out, and he did. But as he walked in front of the car to get to the sidewalk, they made eye contact, according to police. That's when things took a serious turn, and Gast allegedly hit him with the car. According to the victim, Gast accelerated rapidly and struck him with the car. He was thrown onto the hood of the vehicle and then crashed through the windshield, resulting in a severe cut on his elbow, police reports said.
Gast initially claimed she didn't see her boyfriend in front of the car and denied making eye contact with him, but she later admitted to hitting him. She explained that she was in shock and didn't stop immediately but eventually slowed down and pulled over to call the police. While she acknowledged the victim's back had hit the windshield, she claimed that the crack in the windshield occurred when he punched it after the incident.
Criminal Charges
The couple had been together for about a year and were living together at the time of the incident. Gast now faces serious charges, including second-degree assault, criminal vehicular operation with bodily harm, gross negligence, and domestic assault, as detailed in the police affidavit.
