Keith Urban Interview Ends After Trashy Question

Keith Urban has handled plenty of tough crowds. But recently, it was a pair of cheeky radio hosts who pushed the country superstar to his limits — and his classy response had fans cheering.
During a live Zoom interview with Australia's Mix 102.3's "Hayley & Max in the Morning," Urban was asked a cringeworthy, deeply personal question about his wife, Oscar-winning actress Nicole Kidman. The singer's reaction? Swift, graceful, and unforgettable.
The Question That Crossed the Line
Urban appeared in good spirits as he chatted with Hayley Peterson and Max Burford, even playing along when they introduced a segment called "Wall of Truth" — a game promising "very tricky" and "deeply personal" questions, according to PEOPLE.
But about four minutes in, Burford asked the question that would stop the interview cold, according to HuffPost: "What does Keith Urban think when he sees his beautiful wife with beautiful younger men like Zac Efron having these beautiful love scenes on TV?"
The hosts were referring to Kidman's steamy scenes with Efron in the 2024 Netflix comedy "A Family Affair," where the two play love interests. Before Urban could answer, the call abruptly ended.
"Did he just hang up on us?" Peterson asked on-air, according to HuffPost. A producer chimed in: "I think his team hung up on us because they didn't want us to ask that question."
'He Doesn't Like Talking About His Wife'
What followed was radio chaos. The hosts scrambled to figure out what happened, with Peterson admitting she "knew that would happen" and noting, according to HuffPost, "He doesn't like talking about his wife." Burford seemed stunned, saying Urban had been smiling moments before and defending his question because Kidman is "a famous movie star."
Peterson later quipped, "He hates us," as the team tried to reconnect with Urban's publicist — with little luck.
On Instagram, however, many fans sided with Urban, with some reportedly calling his reaction appropriate and praising him for shutting down what they saw as a trashy question.
The Truth Behind the Hang-Up
While headlines suggested Urban himself cut the call short, a source told PEOPLE that wasn't the case. "Keith did not hang up, period," the source said. "He doesn't host his Zoom interviews. This is a complete nothingburger."
According to the source, the interview simply disconnected — but not because of anything Urban did. In fact, the source called him "very easygoing" and insisted he had no personal issue with the question.
Love and Respect, 19 Years Strong
Urban, 57, and Kidman, 58, have been one of Hollywood's most admired couples since marrying in 2006. Last month, the two celebrated their 19th wedding anniversary. According to PEOPLE, Kidman marked the occasion with a sweet Instagram post: "Happy Anniversary Baby @KeithUrban," alongside a black-and-white photo of the couple embracing.
Kidman, speaking to PEOPLE last year, said Urban still keeps her on her toes. "I like being asked out, which he still does," she said. "Seven nights ago, we went to dinner in New York. We love Japanese food, but I'm open [to everything]. I like not knowing where he's going to take me. Surprise me, baby!"
As for her on-screen chemistry with Efron, Kidman explained she felt "incredibly trusting" of the actor because of their previous collaboration on the 2012 film "The Paperboy." "You're not working to create a history," she said, according to PEOPLE. "So I'm not like, 'Can I touch you?'"
The Show Must Go On
The minor controversy didn't stop Urban from continuing his whirlwind schedule. The "Blue Ain't Your Color" singer kicked off his High and Alive World Tour in May, which runs through October, celebrating his latest album, "High."
With sold-out shows, a marriage that still sparkles after nearly two decades, and a reputation for handling uncomfortable moments with class, Urban showed once again that when it comes to his private life — especially Nicole — he won't play games.
